The Dirty Dozen and the Clean 15
It is always best to buy organic produce. This decreases the harmful toxins coming into your body, which are linked to many serious health conditions. However, when you are not able to buy everything organic, due to finances or availability, these two lists can help you make an informed decision.
The Dirty Dozen is a list of common produce items that have the highest levels of pesticides and other harmful chemicals. The Clean 15 is a list of produce items with the lowest levels of these toxic substances. These lists are developed each year by a group of scientists and researcher called the Environmental Working Group. They found that by switching to organic produce for the foods listed on "The Dirty Dozen" list, you can "reduce the amount of toxins you consume on a daily basis by as much as 80%" |
